About the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

In 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). It consists of 30 statements or 'articles' to which all UN member countries agree to ensure a basic standard of human rights for all people. From freedom of expression, freedom from slavery and torture, to a right to education, the UDHR inspires a continued struggle for equal human rights and living standards around the world.
