About Amnesty International
Amnesty International is a movement of ordinary people standing up for humanity and human
rights. Its purpose is to protect individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.
Amnesty International was founded on the belief in the power of ordinary people to make extraordinary
change. Since 1961, it has grown to become the largest and most trusted human rights organisation in
the world and people who have suffered human rights abuses often say that international pressure
secured their freedom and saved their lives.
Throughout 2008, The Co-operative Bank and Amnesty International will be campaigning in partnership
to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to raise awareness of
human rights issues around the world.
